Ref-lite® films consist of very small glass beads embedded in a layer of polyester film to reflect almost all the light that shines on them.

Safety Silver retro-reflective film produces a maximum reflectivity of 675 cd/lux/meter. Several of our other decorative colors reflect as much as 560 cd/lux/meter.

The very low transfer temperature of Ref-lite®, (275° F - 305° F), hot-melt adhesive, and short dwell time (3 - 5 seconds), enable Ref-lite® to be heat pressed to most fabrics including many temperature sensitive ones, including nylon. Since fabric characteristics vary, test before using in production.

Ref-lite® is available in 1 Certified Safety Reflective Color, Safety Silver, and 13 decorative reflective colors including: White, Red, Blue, Cobalt Blue, Green, TF Orange, GT Yellow, NK Yellow, Black, Florescent Yellow, Florescent Orange, Florescent Red, and Florescent Green.

Customers for Ref-lite® Safety Silver include: police, fire, EMS, traffic control, parking, utility, road, construction, transportation, and security personnel, runners, bicyclists and motor bikers, postal and newpaper delivery workers, among others.

Customers for Ref-lite® decorative colors include dance and theatrical companies, sports teams, and travel groups.

Computer-cut, heat transfer Decorative Flock for use on cotton and cotton blend fabrics. #9501 Complies with EN471 (European Standard). It produces a maximum reflectivity of 675 cd/lux/m squared and standard reflectivity of 560 cd/lux/m squared.

Speciality Materials recommends the following procedure for applying both Ref-lite 9501-8500 Series Transfer Films:
Wash this product inside out, cool water, tumble dry!

1. Prepare the design as a mirror image.
2. Remove the protective blue film.
3. Plotter-cut Ref-lite 9501 and 8500 series as a mirror image through the micro glass beads, reflective layer and thermo-sensitive adhesive to the clear film carrier. Use a sharp knife. Cut to, but not through, the clear film backing.
4. Weed and remove unwanted material.
5. Place Ref-lite adhesive side down on the fabric in the desired location. Press firmly with a hand iron or lightly with a heat press at 270-290°F for 3 - 4 seconds to tack the Ref-lite to fabric. Do not use more pressure, temperature or dwell time than is recommended because the adhesive on the weeded backing may stick to the fabric.
6. Remove the protective clear film from the fabric after it has cooled completely.
7. Place a Teflon coated protective sheet over the image and reheat at 270-290°F for 3 seconds. Let that cool completely. Peel away the Teflon sheet to finish the transfer process.

Test with scrap materials PRIOR to actual production.
