COMMON
SUPPORT ISSUES: |
| •
Test print shows mixed ink colors |
This problem
is usually caused by lack of printing or
proper cleaning on the Roland SP-300, SP-540,
SC-500, and CJ-500 printer/cutter units.
It is also possible that the captop or cap
station simply needs to be replaced as well.
This issue is often referred to as Cross
Contamination. Some Roland printers have
multiple ink lines feeding one printhead.
For example, SP-300 has 2 printheads but
4 colors. Black and Cyan feed one head and
Magenta and Yellow are fed to the second
printhead.
To clear up this issue, there are several
actions you can take.
The saftest recommendation is to identify
which color is contaminated and remove that
ink cartridge. Replace it with a new cartridge
and run 2 or 3 powerful cleans from the
control panel. It is possible that more
than 3 cleans may be required to fully flushout
the contaminated ink.
Another option is to connect a syringe
to the captop or cap station and manually
(genltly) pull ink throught the system until
the line is clean. In this case, insert
a cleaning cartridge or new color cartridge
into the printer. Power off the printer
and unplug it. Connect the syringe to the
captop or cap station output port and gently
pull throught the syringe. Be careful to
pull gently as too much force can cause
damage.
Otherwise, contact JSI Support to schedule
a service call. |

Random droplets of ink on media |
Most of the time, random droplets of
ink on your media are caused by a contaminate
on the printhead such as a fiber, hair,
built up dust, dried ink, or the like.
The smallest fiber on the printhead can
act as a wick and collect ink from the head
until it is oversaturated and therefore
drip.
Using a blue LED light, examine the printhead
for any kind of contamintate. Using the
a Roland cleaning swab and Roland Cleaning
Solution, clean as directed in the users
manual. Also examine and clean the Wipers,
Wiper Scraper and Serge Sponge.
Swabs and cleaning fluid can be purchased

| • Missing Color |
If you suspect a color is not printing,
first run a Test Print to verify which color
is missing.
To recover the missing color, you must
first do the following:
- Clean the Printheads using Roland Cleaning
Fluid and Swabs
- Clean the Captop / Cap Station using
Roland Cleaning Fluid and Swabs
- Flood the captop / cap station with
Roland cleaning fluid
- Run a NORMAL Clean and then run test
print
- Repeat up to 3 times
- If still no results, contact JSI for
service or additional support
The other options have is to manually pull
ink through the system with a syringe or
replacement of key parts; damper, captop,
possibly head.
There are electrical issues that can cause
a printhead to not fire as well. |

| • Color Drop
Out During Print |
If you notice a color dropping out during
your print, take note of how far into the
print it is before you notice the change.
Most of the time, color drop out is caused
by ink starvation to the head. This can
be caused by a faulty or clogged damper.
Another possible culpret is air getting
into the system from a faulty or broken
seal.
Most often this problem requires a damper
or captop replacement. |
