Before you plug in the adapter, locate
and insert the installation cd. Follow the
directions to install the Windows drivers.
Once complete, plug in the adapter into
an open USB port.
Your computer should automatically recognize
the adapter and notify you that your device
is ready to use.
Next, you need to find out what COM port
your computer has assigned to the adapter.
To do this, you need to open your Windows
System Properties. To do this, you can go
to START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL and
then double click on the SYSTEM icon. (As
seen below)
Upon opening the System Properties, you
will need to click on the HARDWARE Tab at
the top, and then click on Device Manager
(as seen below)
Within Device Manager, you should see an
option for PORTS if your adapter has been
configured correctly. Click on the plus
sign (+) to the left of PORTS to expand
the view with the Ports section. In the
case of our recommended USB to Serial Adapter,
it will be displayed as 'Prolific USB-to-Serial
Comm Port (COM2)'.
Note what 'COM' port is shown. This is
the specific COM port Number that your computer
has assigned to your adapter. (See below)

This is the port number you need to assign
your cutter driver within your sign making
program. Following are a few images of common
software programs displaying the cutter
port setup options.
